Social work is a Professional course like Medicine, Engineering and Law. It is a helping profession given to an individual, group or community through Professional techniques which involve the study and understanding of human behaviour, needs and potentialities.
Social work is entirely different from Social Service. Social work is the study of Human mind. This course includes the subjects like Psychology, Research, Management, Case work, Group work, Sociology, etc.
This branch has got various specializations. In our college, the Department of Social work has got the following specializations which enables the students to catch more number of Job Opportunities at the end of completion of the course.
1. Industrial relations and personnel management and labour laws and labour legislation.
2. Community development.
3. Medical and Psychiatric Social Work.
This course enables a student to acquire excellent personnel management skills, and also to undergo practical programmes by conducting field work, rural camps and Industrial visits. The mandatory project work in this course manifests one’s bent of social mind.
Job Opportunities:
The students who opt for the above three specializations can be placed in Industries, as Personnel officers, Labour Welfare Officers, in Family Courts, in Non-Governmental Organisations as Project Co-ordinators. A lot of job opportunities are available in foreign countries too. In Tamilnadu, MSW graduates are preferred as Counsellors in Govt. Hospitals.
